Creepy Bag of bones!

Creepy bag of bones!
(October 31, 2009)

This year was the first year that we have really been able to get into the Halloween spirit with Jacob. Although we didn't got Trick-or-Treating we did get Jacob a costume (2 costumes, he didn't like the first one) . The cutest part of it was that for three days straight he wore his costume all over the place, to Target, the pet store, grocery store, and to relatives houses. We got tons of "oh how cutes" and Jacob just thought he was the "bees knees" in his costume. Of course unlike most 2 year olds who would have chosen a firefighter, Superman, Batman, or Spiderman my nontraditional little guy decided he wanted to be a skeleton. There was a good reason for this, as a few days before Halloween his favorite show "Imagination Movers" had their Halloween special and one of the characters "Smitty" dressed up as a skeleton......so Jacob wanted to be a skeleton. Luckily his grandmother had bought him some skeleton PJ's to wear underneath and of course we found some skull and crossbone socks to wear too so we were all decked out!

Halloween night we went to a parade where Jacob got to get some candy that was thrown from the floats and we got to see policemen, firemen, tons of marching bands, and floats. He really enjoyed it and we got to still get him some candy without him having to go up to peoples houses. He tends to be VERY VERY shy around people he doesn't know and Paul and I decided that actual "trick or treating" would probably have been a disaster so we avoided it.

We also painted our 2nd annual hay bale as a spider since Jacob just LOOOOVVVEEES bugs! The one thing that Jacob could have cared less about was the pumpkin carving so Paul did that alone this year, hopefully Jacob will be more into that next year!

Every Last Drop!

Every Last Drop!
(October 18-24, 2009)

This week we had some AWESOME weather! It was sunny, bright, and highs in the upper 70's and even one day made it into the 80's!! So I decided that we needed to enjoy every last drop of sunshine as this will probably be the last of the almost 80 degree weather until the spring!!

We went to the park for a few days and spent most of our evenings taking walks and enjoying the weather! It's funny because when I was younger and even when I was an adult if you would ask me what my favorite season was I would immediately say "WINTER"! But it is funny how when your lifestyle changes (like having children) it can change your view on things. Now I can't stand winter as it means trying to keep a 2 year old just as happy indoors as he is outdoors and that usually never works! But then again he is older this year, starting to come into his own and playing by himself better so hopefully this winter won't be as nerve racking......oh but wait....I have another baby that will make it nerve racking......(SIGH) it never ends! hehehehehehehehehe

Juggling Act!

Juggling Act!
(October 2009)

Well we are two months into going from a family of three to a family of four and I have to say that it has been a juggling act! Paul and I have fumbled quite a few times but we are learning to multitask better and Jacob is usually pretty good with giving Paul and I the space and time to figure things out. However this past week Jacob has decided that he was tired of giving us space and he wanted some of his old habits to come back into play. He gets a bottle in the morning and evening and he used to get it in the rocking recliner with either myself or Paul. Since Andrew has been born we have switched to either Jacob feeding himself his bottle on the couch or occasionally when Andrew happens to be sleeping or in the swing one of us will feed him his bottle. The other day Jacob decided that he was going to have none of the couch and decided that he didn't care if Andrew was asleep or not he wanted a bottle and he wanted it in the recliner.......hence the picture above. The scene above has been played out NUMEROUS times this week by either myself or Paul and although it hasn't always been smooth....sometimes Andrew does not want to be rocked with his brother or vice versa.......we have managed to not have any meltdowns (on Jacob's or our parts...hehehehehe) oh well what can you do!

This juggling act that we have started is only going to get more and more complex as the months go by. I can only imagine what it's going to be like when Andrew decides to crawl or sit and play on the floor while I am trying to play with Jacob or cook , or clean, or whatever....seriously how do people do it with TONS of kids?!?!?!

I just have to thank God that Jacob is such a loving and well behaved little boy!

Dirty Imagination!

Dirty Imagination!
(October 2009)

I have learned this week that my son has a dirty imagination. Now I know what you are thinking and it isn't what you think! Jacob being an only child (until recently) to a stay at home mom. Has always had a playmate to play with. If it isn't me it's his father, and if it isn't him then it is any number of cousins that live within feet of our house. But for the past couple of weeks Jacob has really started "growing up" and started to use his imagination. I was told by a lot of people that this would inevitably happen since I wouldn't be at his beck and call anymore with having to take care of Andrew.

I have to admit that it is nice to see Jacob playing with his toys by himself and seeing him playing with them in a way that you can tell he is creating a "scene" or "world" for these toys to live in. But it seems that the only way he plays for any length of time is if he is getting dirty! I guess that is the boy in him.

The other day Paul was outside and Jacob was with him keeping himself busy when all of a sudden Paul comes inside with a grin on his face asking me if I wanted to see what Jacob had been doing to keep himself busy........

You see it seems that Jacob being the observant one that he is saw Paul and I trimming the flowers and shrubs back the other day and thought that he too could help us out! Needless to say only a few flowers managed to live through the massacre!

Then the other day I was home alone with a very cranky 8 week old and needed something for Jacob to do by himself to allow me time to deal with Andrew.....I knew from a few months ago that Jacob loved this concoction of corn starch and water that I created for him. I played with it as a kid and I have never met a child yet who doesn't love to play with it. If you haven't ever made it you should.....basically you add just enough water to make a box of cornstarch get just wet. You know when it is just right when it looks like liquid when left alone but becomes solid when you try and stir it or pick it up! Jacob just loved to put his toy people and animals in it and watch them sink into the mixture and then try and pull them out! It is a pretty neat and extremely cheap play thing for a 2 year old! So on the day in question he sat at the table and played by himself with this cornstarch mixture for an HOUR AND A HALF!!! It was awesome! He was laughing and carrying on it was great.....but DIRTY!!!!!

Hap Bir-Day!

Hap Bir-Day!
(10/3/09)

As you can see by the picture and the chocolate smeared face Jacob got to partake in the birthday confections before we sang!!

Happy Birthday Daddy! We Love You!
